Special Events in Annapolis

Wednesday Night Sailboat Races
Beginning each April and running through August, the midweek tradition is to see boats race around the harbor to a finish in front of the Annapolis Yacht Club. The races are part of the strong maritime traditions of Annapolis, the home of the United States Naval Academy. There are numerous yacht and sailing races throughout the year in Annapolis, but the Wednesday Night Sailboat Races are unique. The after race party is seen by many locals as an early start to the weekend.

The annual music festival happens each June and features local music across many genres. Several stages are set up and past performances have seen acts that later go on to national and international fame. Set in the historic maritime region of Eastport, there is much more than just great music. Food, drink, and kid's area offer plenty to do between sets. Will you catch the next big thing in an intimate setting at what is the area's biggest summer music festival?

Fourth of July Parade
Annapolis, like many other cities, has a parade on the Fourth of July to celebrate Independence Day. What makes this event unique is the history, colonial architecture, and the music. The parade ends at the docks and the United States Naval Academy Band performs patriotic songs before the big fireworks show over the harbor. Cruises run on the water for a different perspective. Is there a more patriotic way to celebrate our nation's independence?

Annapolis Rotary Club Crab Feast
The annual summer event honors, and celebrates the eating of, the area's greatest seafood treasure. The Chesapeake Bay crabs are among the best anywhere. Celebrate the crab at the all-you-can-eat extravaganza, which includes side dishes and drinks including beer. The Crab Feast is held at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, in midsummer. Blue crab and craft beer are a combination that can't be beat.

Maryland Renaissance Festival
It's billed as the second largest renaissance event in America. Beginning in August and running weekends through October, the annual festival typically features specials like Children's Weekend, Pirate Weekend, Celtic Celebration, Oktoberfest, and jousting events.

Of course, there are displays, fun and games, music, dancing, stage shows, with great food and libations. If you are feeling the medieval spirit, costume rentals are available. There are even weddings scheduled, but be aware, the wedding party must be in costume!
